(March 31, 2022) The future of Nantucket's bay scallop fishery may lie in a massive seed bed in Madaket, which town shellfish biologist Tara Riley hopes to spread around the island’s harbors in order to preserve the industry, following another lackluster scalloping season.
The 2021-2022 season ended with a whimper on Thursday. Scallopers took in 3,200 bushels from the start of the season, in November, less than half the 7,800 bushels taken last year and the 7,000 bushels taken the year before. READ MORE
